Clinical research studies ever conducted on the effects of Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO) on cholesterol levels have shown a decrease in body fat and bad cholesterol and increase good cholesterol among the VCO user. In a statement to the Ghana News Agency in Accra on Monday, a team of researchers led by Dr. Christina Binag of the University of St. Thomas (UST) Research Center of Natural and Applied Sciences in the Philippines, stated that the study required 110 participants to take three tablespoons VCO eat everyday for four months while the other 79 had placebo for the same period. It said in addition to the clinical effects, the study reported that they were taking VCO felt stronger and healthier. They reported regular bowel movements, increased appetite and stamina and better sleep. “Some of the VCO takers also said they were more manly and becoming more sexually active during the period of their participation in the study VCO”.
Health experts claim that the reduction in body fat and bad cholesterol and increase good cholesterol makes individuals less prone to strokes, heart attacks and many other lifestyle diseases, it stated. According to a statement no visible changes in the lipid profile and other parameters of the placebo group, adding that doctors and scientists from the University of the Philippines and De La Salle University has also declared its latest research and sound and scientific. This suggests that, Hon. Proceso Alcala, Agriculture Minister of the Philippines said at a press conference held in the building of the Philippine Coconut Authority in Quezon City on February 29, 2012 that “Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO) is not only for cooking but also for sex. In the past, we only hear anecdotes about the benefits of VCO. now, it is the doctors and scientists who have confirmed it.
“Those who would benefit from this research is not only those who wish to be more active in the bedroom. It also will help the coconut farmers in the country as the medical evidence will increase the demand for VCO”. The Philippines is the world’s top exporter of coconut products. In 2011, export earnings from coconut products reached $ 1950000000. Considering the export potential of VCO, replanting program of 20 million coconut trees, which aims to provide a sustainable livelihood for the coconut farming communities, has been launched in the Philippines.
Recommend trend in Ghana, Virgin Coconut Oil Producers Association ‘of Ghana, led by the Chairman, Mr. George Mochiah appealed to the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and the government to provide members with greater capacity grinding machine to produce more oil to meet the demands of their customers. This is according to the Association, will help provide jobs for the youth to reduce the unemployment rate, helping Ghana to be healthy by reducing the disease burden of users among other benefits.
