Brown Sugar is a natural sweetener Pure function as anti diabetes.
Food and Nutrition Research Institute (FNRI) of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) of the Philippines have found anti-diabetic properties of coconut sugar aka brown sugar made from coconut sap. It is said that, coconut sugar does not cause hyperglycemia or high blood sugar because it has a low glycemic index (GI).
GI measures how quickly the carbohydrates are converted into glucose in the blood and how quickly carbohydrate turns into sugar.
In the study, blood samples from 10 non-diabetic collected before and after eating sugar. The results showed that coconut sap sugar does not drastically increase blood glucose levels.
The researchers say that the GI foods more than 70 or greater is classified as a high GI, 56-69, medium GI; and 0-55, low GI.
Dr. Trinidad Trinidad, scientists II of Dost, FNRI the Philippines, said the coconut sugar has a GI of about 35.
Studies show that coconut sugar also helps in lowering cholesterol. In addition, coconut sugar is also rich in nutrients such as potassium, phosphorus, magnesium, sulfur, calcium and vitamin C.
