Do you know the leading cause of death in children? According to the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP), the largest cause of death in children in the world namely pneumonia. This disease affects many children aged under five. Pneumonia or better known in Indonesia is a disease of lower respiratory tract infection that attacks the lungs.
Pneumonia is usually treated with antibiotics. But it turns out there are other alternatives other than antibiotics to treat the virgin coconut oil (VCO). Recent research has found that the VCO is added to antibiotics may reduce symptoms of pneumonia in children. In fact, the effect is faster than just giving antibiotics alone.
Giving antibiotics simultaneously VCO and will more quickly reduce tightness in the lungs of children. The study also revealed that the provision of the VCO can make the flow of oxygen in the blood becomes more smoothly. The study was headed by Dr. Saphire Erguiza Gilda, a pediatric pulmonologist from the Philippine Children’s Medical Center. And, the fact is expressed in the meeting of the American College of Chest Physicians in Philadelphia, United States.
The study was followed by the 40 children with an age range between 3-5 years. The children who develop pneumonia are in like 2 groups. The first group was treated with only antibiotics amphicillin to reduce the symptoms of pneumonia. The second group was given antibiotics and VCO by 2 millimeters from each kilogram of their body weight.
The result is the VCO and the group given antibiotics, for three consecutive days, shortness of breath was reduced compared with children who were given antibiotics. “Children who have a fever VCO consumes more briefly, and faster to absorb oxygen,” said Erguiza.
